Black Quotidian: Everyday History in African-American Newspapers

August 3, 1939

On August 3, 1939, the Cleveland Call and Post featured a photograph of a singing octet from Atlanta’s Clark University that was in Cleveland to perform at the Seventh World’s Poultry Congress and Exposition.The group of young singers performed four times daily during the weeklong expo at an exhibit sponsored by the Stone Mountain Grit Company of Lithonia, Georgia.
