On September 12, 1976, the Atlanta Daily World reported that Tony award–winning actress and singer Melba Moore was joining the children’s television series “Big Blue Marble” as a consultant and spokeswoman (click to view article PDF). Moore was also featured on the cover of Ebony Jr. magazine the following year to promote the show. “‘Big Blue Marble’ tried to bring young people together by teaching them about children in other parts of the world,” the magazine article noted. “They learn to appreciate cultures other than their own. The show hopes to build world peace and understanding between nations through their children.”
