Black Quotidian: Everyday History in African-American Newspapers

May 20, 1948

On May 20, 1948, the Los Angeles Sentinel reported on a lawsuit involving former boxing champion Henry Armstrong.  Armstrong, who at one point held three boxing championships simultaneously (middleweight, lightweight, and welterweight), was being sued for $23,750 for backing out of a fight in 1943. It is not clear from the article why it took so long for the case to come to court (click to view article PDF).
