Black Quotidian: Everyday History in African-American Newspapers

May 17, 1932

On May 17, 1932, the front page of the Atlanta Daily World featured a picture of Chrystal Tulli, a teacher at Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis. Tulli, a Fisk University graduate, was set to direct a play “Ballet Beautiful” and told the Daily World that “unusual talent and costume in this year’s ballet will be by far the most outstanding of any that has been presented.”

I was not able to find any additional information about Chrystal Tulli in the Atlanta Daily World archives, but the newspaper did run a picture of three of the “Ballet Beautiful” dancers.
