Black Quotidian: Everyday History in African-American Newspapers

June 2, 1945


On June 2, 1945, the Norfolk Journal and Guide announced that a delegation from the Negro Newspapers Association met with President Truman at the White House. The newspaper executives urged President Truman to pass the Fair Employment Practices Bill and to appoint a black person as an assistant administrator to the Veterans Administration to ensure that the VA would serve black veterans.
