- 1 2019-03-12T23:56:20+00:00 May 19, 1962 3 plain published 2019-08-21T12:40:08+00:00 On May 19, 1962, the Philadelphia Tribune ran an advertisement from Philadelphia Electric Company for electric clothes dryers. “Flameless electric clothes dryers are the perfect partners for working wives, or any busy homemaker, because clothes can be dried automatically, rain or shine, day or night,” the ad informed readers. While I've seen advertisements for other household appliances in the postwar era, such as televisions and refrigerators, I do not recall seeing one for clothes dryers, especially an advertisement placed by the utility company.
