February 7, 1944
On February 7, 1944, the Los Angeles Tribune ran an advertisement for “Sweet ’n’ Hot,” an “All Star Colored Musical Revue” at the Mayan Theatre. In addition to comedian and emcee Leonard Reed, Edith Wilson, duo Miller and Lee, and dancers Archie Savage, Anise Boyer, and Marie Bryant, the revue included a twenty-one year-old Dorothy Dandridge in one of her first featured roles. In reviewing “Sweet ’n’ Hot,” the Los Angeles Times described Dandridge as “a winsome youngster with considerable on the ball.”65
