Lampkin had been active in politics for over a decade, working to advance women’s suffrage in her hometown of Pittsburgh as a member of the Lucy Stone League. For the 1928 campaign, she served as the Director of Women’s Activities, Colored Voter’s Division, for the states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and Virginia. “Women workers in each State report that both town and ward meetings are being held regularly, and contacts are being secured through interviews and group meetings,” the Tribune reported. “In the States under her supervision, Mrs. Lampkin reports detailed and intensive work in the organization of Hoover-Curtis clubs.”  (Click to view article PDF.)
