On January 9, 1971, the last page of the New York Amsterdam News carried a notice that Bronx Women’s Liberation Health Committee and Fordham Hospital were offering free exams to detect breast and uterine cancer. “I hope every woman in the area will take advantage of this life-saving opportunity,” Dr. Marcelle Bernard said.
