On January 6, 1940, the Norfolk Journal and Guide’s banner headline announced, “Death Claims Kelly Miller.” Kelly Miller taught at Howard University for over four decades and the Journal and Guide’s editorial noted that “he won unusual distinction as teacher, mathematician, physicist, sociologist, essayist, advocate for larger freedom [and] scholar. He was all of things and more.”
