On January 3, 1935, Atlanta Daily World columnist I. P. Reynolds outlined his ethics for his “What Sam of Auburn Avenue Says” column for the new year. “I will not answer critics as it shows that you are doing something and it should be considered an attainment to be criticized,” Reynolds wrote. “A good for nothing man is seldom actually criticized.”
